Halo is a legendary franchise at this point. It rivals the successes of everything that came before it and it’s fan base is a tribute to that. Now Halo 4 is coming and we get our first look at two multiplayer maps that we’ve never seen before. We’re also hearing that 343 Industries has found a reason for red Spartans to fight blue Spartans. I’m pretty sure Rooster Teeth had that covered but now I suppose 343 is making it canon. We also get our first look at the new battle rifle, and hear that they’ve completely graphically updated all vehicles, weapons and enemies. That last part intrigues me because what enemies would they need to update if this was a new adventure. Apparently we can expect to be fighting old familiar foes. But the biggest piece of information is that the game will actually explore who Master Chief is. As they explain in the footage almost all of Master Chief’s past has been talked about in other media like comics, books and that anime dvd/blu-ray that came out. Click to watch the footage

We have Halo 1 coming our way once again this November, but the real Halo news to get excited about is the return of Master Chief in the 2012 holiday season. He’s back, along with Cortana, in what’s being billed as the start of a new trilogy. I was pretty underwhelmed by the story aspect of Reach, so I’m hoping this will bring a somewhat interesting take on things back to the Halo universe. And if he’s off in the middle of nowhere, I think that should mean totally new enemies, right? Mix things up a bit. Have some new kind of little midgets who’s heads explode with a satisfying pop but don’t look like mutated turtles this time around.
Whatever they do, I’m sure I’ll be playing it, as will Kent, in a year and a half.
