Am I excited? Nope.
The good: It’s a free DLC.
The bad: It’s essentially just more cutscenes “explaining” the craptastic “endings” to the game.
On a positive note, it would be very, very hard for these additional scenes to actually make the end of the game worse, so there is that going for it…
I love RPGs, I love third-person shooters, and I really love sci-fi, so as you might expect, the Mass Effect series has been one of my favorite things ever since it debuted in 2007. The feeling of choice and consequence is second to none, and the huge cast of both lovable and hateable characters make the universe really come to life. Mass Effect was hands down my favorite game of 2007, and likewise Mass Effect 2 in 2010. It goes without saying that I expected Mass Effect 3 to take the title for 2012, but things aren’t so clear cut this time around.
Yes, this is exactly what you think it is – that same great CG trailer only now with Femshep kicking the asses of many a husk. It’s well worth another watch in anticipation of tomorrow’s release of Mass Effect 3. Check it out after the break.
…Because, well, it’s Mass Effect 3. Why wouldn’t you watch it?
Be warned though, this could be considered a bit spoilery. Check it out after the break.
Live Action Mass Effect 3 Trailer is… Okay?
by Kent on February 27, 2012 >> News • PC • PS3 • Trailers • Videos • Xbox
When it comes to Mass Effect 3′s current advertising campaign it was going to be hard to top the CGI trailer that premiered on last week’s Walking Dead. Bioware/EA tried to do it anyway with a live action trailer that feels small, like a TV movie on SyFy. The costume Shepard is wearing looks expensive but I’ve seen cosplayers pull of better (literally) and the CGI integration with people seems to be just missing the mark. Maybe they should have kept this trailer under wraps. What do you think of it? Click to watch.
[update] PC demo is out now – download it here (requires Origin)
This trailer proves without a doubt that as creepy as the reapers might seem, nothing compares to the horror of an animated CG child. But more importantly, it signifies the fact that the Mass Effect 3 demo is available to download today on Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 (at 4pm PST) and is packed full of hours worth of single and multiplayer goodness. If you haven’t already, check out Kent’s impressions of the single player right here and check out the podcast tomorrow (live around 3:30pm PST) or Thursday for a whole lot of multiplayer impressions (and possibly footage).
And obviously right now you should go download the demo on your platform of choice (or wait a few hours until it’s ready to go) and check out this short teaser after the break.
Hands On: Mass Effect 3′s Single Player Campaign
by Kent on February 13, 2012 >> Hands On • PC • PS3 • Videos • Xbox
We got a bit of early access to the upcoming Mass Effect 3 Demo and all I can say today is this: WOW! Bioware has truly raised the bar on this one by giving the gaming audience a different way to play the game for every play style, something I’ve never seen before in a game and I’m shocked at how well it worked. As the demo opens you’re asked if you want to play the game as a shooter, rpg or more as just a story based adventure game. The fact of the matter is, all these game styles work in Mass Effect as was proven with Mass Effect 2 but now you can focus on the game in either of these styles depending on how you play. Are you a shooter junkie? The game will push itself to be a rough and tumble shooter. Are you an RPG fan? Well leveling up, commanding troops and customization will be at the forefront of your game or if you just want to enjoy the journey and powerful story you can do that and the game will guide you along through the adventure to the very end, providing you with challenges but also making them a bit simpler. But what about all these elements? How good are they? Read on to find out.
Fans want FemShep trailer. Fans get FemShep trailer. Thanks BioWare. While I’ll personally be playing as regular old John Shepard, it’s cool to finally see a trailer cut from the eyes of the Shepard who’s not a dude. Check it out after the break.
I’ve been waiting to watch (and post) these videos since they were uploaded to YouTube days ago and someone momentarily forgot to set them to private, upon which YouTube decided to notify me right after the mistake was fixed. Nothing worse than thinking there’s a badass new Mass Effect trailer and then not being able to watch it, right? Luckily, they’re all up now, and there’s content for everyone. Want to avoid spoilers? Just check out the multiplayer and arsenal videos. Don’t care? Watch ‘em all. And to be honest, all of these are more montage oriented rather than flat out showing things you don’t want to see, so they’re all relatively safe. Click through to watch them all.
Mass Effect 3: Special Forces Trailer is Awesome
by Kent on January 27, 2012 >> PC • PS3 • Trailers • Videos • Xbox
I usually skip out on the multiplayer experience when I get a new game. I’m big on story and immersion, and I’m not big on kids talking like a bunch of douche bags. Looks like Mass Effect 3 is going to blend the greatness that can come from a good co-op experience and blend story into it. In fact from what we know Mass Effect 3′s co-op experience can effect all your single player campaign giving you more of a reason to play. The new trailer shows off the special forces mode and how different races/classes have different abilities and working together will keep you alive longer. I suggest watching the full trailer in HD with the volume turned up. Click to watch the greatness.
